So you’re looking for a job (no easy task) and you want the best possible visibility. It seems to make sense that applying on your own to a position that a recruiter presented you to will increase your odds of getting that job.
It won’t.
What it will do is give the impression that you and your recruiter aren’t communicating. Aquinas has worked hard to build relationships with hiring managers, so trust your recruiter to work on your behalf. Employers get irritated when they see duplicate candidates, and it makes them wonder if we’re doing our job.
Recruiter Relationship Facts:
We’re never offended if you’ve already applied to one of our clients! When you’re open and honest with us, we’ll be ready to present your skills to other companies in our network as soon as exciting opportunities for you become available.
We’ll be open and honest with you, too — our recruiters will not present you to a company or position without your permission.
Communicate with your recruiter. If you’ve applied to a company in the past, say so. If you think another agency may have already presented you, say so. If you’ve previously worked at a company, definitely say so.
You and your recruiter are a team. Be open and honest, and let Aquinas to do what we do best.
