Aquinas was founded in 2000 by Thomas Mercaldo in Milford, CT. Tom began his career building the business for both GE and Keane Consulting before founding Aquinas.
Why did you pick the name “Aquinas? What were your founding principles?
“The name Aquinas was derived from Saint Thomas Aquinas. Thomas was a teacher of ethics and morality and that is what I wanted to ensure to each of our clients and candidates. In an industry where not all of our competitors have top standards we wanted to distinguish ourselves through a reputation of quality and ethics. The needs of our candidates and customers always come first”
Where do you see Aquinas in the Future?
“Aquinas is currently in a growth period. We are continuing to add to our staff in our headquarters in Milford and growing our customer base to obtain economies of scale within Connecticut. In addition we are going to expand our presence within the Massachusetts, Albany, NY and New York City markets.
Name something that has surprised you about the company throughout the years from when it started in 2000.
“I have really been surprised with where the company has gone. We were founded as an IT staffing firm targeting development with both Java and .Net in Connecticut. Over the years through our successes and relationships with our customers we have grown to support not only Connecticut but also 17 other states. In addition, we have increased our engineering business to almost 30 % of our revenue. We have supported positions such as Earned Value Management, Primavera Schedulers, and a variety of engineering openings. Supporting our customers is the most important thing and that has helped us grow our business.”
