Aquinas Consulting is happy to announce its third annual scholarship which has been awarded to five high school students. The recipients from the 2019 graduating class include Brianna Felisko and Joseph Federico of Jonathan Law High School, Nicholas Gerwien of Notre Dame (West Haven), Meghan Lesko of Trumbull High School, and Ellie Murphy of Cheshire High School. These recipients have been chosen due to their impressive involvement in their respective high schools and communities.
Throughout her high school career, Brianna Felisko participated in Indoor Track as well as managing both the Girls and Boys Swim Teams for Jonathan Law. She also actively volunteered for Halle’s Hope 5k. For the past two years, Brianna has worked as a hostess at a local restaurant. Beyond her normal hostess duties, she is responsible for training new members of the restaurants staff. Brianna will be attending Florida Gulf Coast University in the fall.
Joseph Federico was a very active member of the Key Club at Jonathan Law for all four years in high school. Joseph went on to become a leader within the Key Club. The positions he held were Head of District Projects, and Treasurer. Through the Key Club, Joseph has done over 200 hours of community service. This year Joseph, and his other officers, organized multiple fundraisers in order to raise $12,000 for a fresh water well in Swaziland. In the fall, Joseph will be attending Drexel University.
Throughout his life, Nicholas Gerwien participated in Boy Scouts and recently earned his Eagle Scout. Nick was also a member of the Order of the Arrow. He staffed the National Youth Leadership Training for 5 years through Boy Scouts, and attended the 2017 National Jamboree in West Virginia for two weeks. He also played football, and earned his black belt in karate. On top of all of this, Nick has worked as an intern for Aquinas Eagle Publishing for a year and a half. In the fall, Nick will be attending Nichols College.
During her senior year, Meghan Lesko was elected Secretary of her graduating class at Trumbull High School. Meghan was a 4-year varsity soccer and golf athlete. She was also a 3-year varsity basketball player. Her senior year, she was named captain of all three sports teams. Meghan was an active member of the National Honor Society at Trumbull High School. Through NHS, she participated in an annual food drive during the holiday season. Meghan will be attending Syracuse University in the fall.
Ellie Murphy was an active member of Best Buddies, and Peer Health (a student leadership organization) throughout her four years at Cheshire High. Ellie was also a 4-year varsity swimmer, as well as a member of the girl’s golf and indoor track teams. She was elected captain of the swim team her senior year. In the fall, Ellie will be attending Siena College where she will be a member of their Women’s Swim team.
Through these five students high involvement, they have made a difference in their school and local communities. They have also become leaders for others to look up to. Each student has individually made his/her own impact on their respective clubs, sports, and places of work. Aquinas Consulting is proud to award Brianna, Joseph, Nick, Meghan, and Ellie with these scholarships, and wish them the best in college!
